The Story Behind Every Drop
She closed her eyes, poured the oil, and said — "Smell it. That's what the land remembers."
— Perumayee, Southern India, 1985

In a small village in Southern India, a grandmother in a red and yellow saree would walk to the fields, handpick seeds, and grind them in a traditional wooden cold press, the same chekku method her father taught her. She filtered the oil under the open sun and believed that when you taste truly honest oil, it carries the memory of the land, the rain, and the season it came from. That belief never left the family. It became Chekko — India's trusted traditional cold pressed oil brand.

The Company Name Behind The Brand

More than a word.
A way of life.

Agamahil = அகம் + மகிழ்ச்சி, means inner happiness. It is the belief that food made with honesty carries something the body recognises and the soul remembers.

That feeling is what drove four decades of work under the Agamahil name: selecting Non-GMO seeds, pressing them slowly with the traditional chekku wooden press, and never once taking the shortcut that would make it cheaper but less honest.

Purity is not achieved by speed.
Purity is achieved by discipline.

"When Perumayee cooked with her own pressed oil, the entire house smelled different. It wasn't just food. It was the feeling that nothing had been hidden from you."

— Arul Ponnusamy, recalling his grandmother's kitchen

Birth of Chekko Tin

The story of why we changed the game in oil packaging.

01
One fine day, a water bottle happened to be under the sunlight for quite some time
on
02
A man happened to drink water from that and felt the toxic
03
Thought if this is for drinking water, what is happening with edible oils?
04
An idea was sparked - better packaging, better oil

Finally, Food-grade chekko tins are born to keep the oil fresh and pure

Pioneer in tin packaging for cold-pressed oils.

The Founder's Question That Started It All

"Are we still consuming food the way it is meant to be?"

— Arul Ponnusamy, Founder, Chekko

That question drove Arul Ponnusamy to leave the easy path and build something harder, a traditional cold-pressed oil brand that refuses shortcuts. Every day at Chekko means balancing quality, cost, and growth. One rule has never moved: if it compromises purity or trust, we don't do it.

Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

What is cold-pressed oil, and why is it better?
+

Cold-pressed oil is made by slowly crushing seeds at low temperatures using a traditional wooden press, without heat or chemicals. This preserves the oil's natural nutrients, flavour, and aroma. Refined oils, by contrast, use high heat and chemical solvents that strip these benefits away. Chekko uses the authentic chekku wooden cold press method that has been practised in South India for generations.

Why does Chekko use tin packaging instead of plastic?
+

Plastic bottles allow light and heat to slowly break down the oil's quality, even before you open the bottle. Chekko pioneered Food-Grade tin packaging for cold pressed oil in India to protect the oil's natural aroma, nutrients, and purity all the way from the press to your kitchen. No leaching. No compromise.

Is Chekko oil certified and safe?
+

Yes. All Chekko cold pressed oils are ISO, HACCP, FSSAI, and GMP certified. They are 100% Non-GMO and manufactured in our own facility with strict in-house quality control at every stage — from seed selection to sealing the tin.

Who founded Chekko, and what is the Agamahil legacy?
+

Chekko was founded by Arul Ponnusamy, inspired by his grandmother Perumayee's traditional oil-pressing methods in Southern India. The Agamahil name — meaning inner happiness — represents four decades of ethical business practices built on the belief that honest food creates honest health.

What makes Chekko different from other cold pressed oil brands in India?
+

Chekko combines traditional wooden cold pressing, carefully sourced Non-GMO seeds, in-house manufacturing, Food-Grade tin packaging, and export-grade quality certifications: a combination no other Indian brand offered when Chekko launched. Trusted by over 1,00,000+ families across India and globally.
